 Parent-Teacher Communication
Parent to Teacher
The teachers encourage parents to share information with them that relates to their child. This may be something as big as Dad being out of town for a week or the child waking up at 5:00am. Anything that happens to the child at home will impact his enjoyment, behaviour and success at school. Having this knowledge enables the teachers to ensure that each child has a day that is as smooth and happy as possible. Such conversations are strictly confidential, and this information is so vital to help the Directresses understand your child.
Examples may include:
• Moving
• A death in the family
• Separation of parents
• Sleeping/eating/bedwetting problems
• A new baby
• A new caregiver
• The death of a pet
• Parental absences (business trips, etc...)
Family Montessori has two parent/teacher conferences per year. If you wish to discuss your child at any other time, please make and appointment with the Directresses. We feel that it is inappropriate and difficult to confer with the teachers in the presence of the child (at drop-off or pick-up time). Please make an appointment for before or after school, when someone is able to watch your child.
Teacher to Parent
The teachers are likewise committed to informing parents on their child’sperformance at school via informal conversations- telephone and personal.
Additionally, parent observations and conferences are held twice a year with written reports given to all children at the end of May. Kindergarten children receive written reports at the end of each term that satisfies the Ministry of Education guidelines.
Each school site publishes a term newsletter as well as the occasional ‘note from the teachers’. Should incidents happen in the class teachers will be inpersonal direct communication with parents.
Communications with the Principal
The Principal may be contacted at any time by email, phone or at the school office. Please feel free to discuss any concerns you may have including:
• School guidelines
• Questions about fees
• Questions about hours drop-off/pick-up times
• Daily absences (a note is required for kindergarten students)
• Safety issues
