 Note from the teachers.

Welcome to another school year! We anticipate a great year and are delighted how the children have been settling in so far.

Welcome to all the ‘new’ families joining us this year. You will most likely see changes in your child over the next little while, so please feel free to talk to us. We are here to answer any questions!

 Reminders.

1.      The best times to call are 8.00 a.m. to      8.45 a.m. and 11.45 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. You can leave a message during class times and we will get back to you.

2.      Please have written authorization of any person who will be picking up your child other than yourself or the person designated on the Parent Information form.

3.      Please send your child to school in shoes that he/she can independently take on and off. This helps us as well as being good for your child’s confidence when getting ready for class or to go home.

4.      If your child is sick, please give us a call to let us know. This way we can inform the other parents of little ‘bugs’ going around.

5.      Please keep toys at home as they do not come into the classroom. This makes the transition into the classroom easier for the child.

6.      Check your child’s mail pocket and the bulletin board downstairs for any information you may need.

Thanks

Ms Chris and Ms Carla

 Entertainment Books.

Entertainment Books are on sale now for $46. This is a great deal and you can soon recover the cost. There are many two-for-one deals at various attractions in Vancouver, discounts for stores, and lots of coupons for dining out. Proceeds go towards the hiring of school buses for field trips, so get yours from Annah (Declan’s mum—morning class) today!

 Fundraising committee.

Clair (Harrison R’s mum—afternoon class) is the head of our fundraising committee and would like to put the FUN back into fundraising, but she needs your help! If you would like to volunteer to help the committee or have an idea for fundraising, please call her on 604 734-0127.

 Travel arrangements by Annah.

Annah Simard (Declan’s mum) has worked for Globespan for the last four years, the last two as an outside agent. She can get great deals on everything from international flights to all-inclusive vacations. If you are already thinking about your next trip, please contact her on her home phone number, 604 682-8774.

 Introducing your editors.

Hello there. We are Mark and Sara Breakspear, parents of Charlotte (afternoon class) and Noah, aged 1 year, and we are your newsletter editors for the second year running (hurrah!). Mark is a visual effects supervisor and Sara is a stay-at-home mum. We welcome you to contribute items for the newsletter—articles for sale, recipes, announcements, pictures, quotes, or anything else you would like to share!

 Smiles.

Police

While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, I was interrupted by a little girl about six years old. Looking up and down at my uniform, she asked, ‘Are you a cop?’ ‘Yes’, I answered and continued writing the report. ‘My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?’ ‘Yes, that’s right’, I told her. ‘Well, then,’ she said as she extended her foot towards me, ‘would you please tie up my shoelace?’

Opinions

On the first day of school, a first-grader handed his teacher a note from his mother. The note read, ‘The opinions expressed by this child are not necessarily those of his parents.’
