 Frequently Asked Questions
These are answers to some questions about the registration process. For more information about our schools please see the “About Us” section, and for more information about our curriculum, please see our “Montessori Method” section.
1. What is the application process?
New applicants should attend our Open House hosted in February of each school year. On this evening, you should submit an application form & fee. Once we have your application, an observation of the class and interview with your child will be set up. When all interviews are done, the school will contact you by phone or letter to notify of your child’s status.
2. Is there a waitlist?
No. We will keep an application on file in case of an opening occurring. Your application will be considered if it fills the age requirement and gender balance for the class.
3. Do applications transfer more than one year?
No, applications are only good for the year of entry to FMSS.
4. Can we observe the classroom?
Current parents with children enrolled may observe during our observation months (November & May) or by setting up a time with their child’s Directress.
New parents may observe the class after the Open House date if an application form & fee has been submitted for your child. The teachers will set up an observation (adults only) and interview time for you and your child.
5. At what age does my child come to preschool?
We accept children who turn 3 years by December 31st of the year of enrolment.
I.e. A birthday up to December 31st: YES, the child is eligible.
A birthday January 1st onwards, the child would have to apply for the following September.
6. Can my 3 or 4 year old come full day if I enroll them in 2 sessions?
No, licensing does not allow us to enroll preschoolers for more than one session.
7. Does my child have to be toilet trained?
Yes. Your child must be completely toilet trained. Pull-ups are not appropriate.
8. Where can I find more information about Montessori?
Please see the Montessori Method page of our web site, or visit the following links:
www.montessori-ami.org
www.ami.edu
9. What does a parent duty entail?
We do not require parents to participate in class. We do however have parent jobs that each family needs to fulfil. Examples of duties are laundry, carpet cleaning, playground maintenance, sewing etc. If a family chooses NOT to do a parent job then they pay one months’ preschool tuition in lieu of, for that school year.
10. What is the tuition?
For the 2009-2010 School year, our tuition was as follows:
Preschool = $400/month
Extended-day = $700/month
